The government and provincial governors have agreed on a general vaccination obligation from February. Infection figures at a record high, overcrowded intensive care units and a low vaccination rate of about 65 percent have made this necessary, Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said Friday, explaining the move.

Record high for vaccinations in Vienna
At the same time, more Corona vaccinations were administered in Vienna in recent days than ever before. So came on Thursday 29,955 people vaccinated, on Friday it was even 30,788, announced the spokesman for Vienna Health City Council Peter Hacker on Twitter. “Absolute record value.”

And they want to push that even higher. The city is sending out a letter to 340,000 unvaccinated people that already includes a personal vaccination appointment at the Austria Center. To keep it, the recipient does not have to take any further steps, but simply come to the vaccination street.

Since Monday, children between the ages of 5 and 11 have also been vaccinated against Corona at the Austria Center. It is the first offer of this kind in Austria so far – and is obviously well received: all appointments are fully booked. Around 9,000 appointments were available, and they were already taken before the start of the children’s vaccination campaign. On the evening before the campaign began, only 200 appointments were still available, and by Monday they were all gone.

Rush on vaccination buses
The vaccination offers in the country, such as the vaccination bus in Carinthia, are also well received. There it came on Thursday and Friday to considerable waiting periods, inoculations are administered without registration.

Also the Burgenland forces further the inoculation without registration. This is possible in six centers every week Wednesday to Sunday – also in the lockdown in Gols, Müllendorf, Mattersburg, Oberpullendorf, Oberwart and Heiligenkreuz.

Across Austria, 117,536 people were vaccinated on Friday – 17,170 of them were first-time vaccinations. The previous record day was recorded across Austria on June 2. At that time, almost 150,000 people in Austria were vaccinated against Corona.
